A gold-plated Samsung Galaxy S7 can be yours for just $3,000

A gold-plated Samsung Galaxy S7 can be yours for just $3,000

When a new phone is announced, many of of us await the pricing with dread: Will you be able to afford it, or will you have to suffer through another year with your old phone that only holds a charge for 30 minutes?

Some customers, however, are ready to pay a much higher price for a little extra bling. If you're looking for a phone that will show how deep your pockets are (both literally and figuratively), you should check out Goldgenie's gold-plated versions of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.

The UK brand now has both variants of the phone available for pre-order, both encased in 24k gold, rose gold or platinum, and both coming in a special cherry oak finish box.

The actual phone — besides the gold plating and the wooden box — is exactly the same as the regular Galaxy S7: 5.1-inch screen, a Snapdragon 820 processor, and a 12-megapixel camera. Thankfully, it comes with 64GB storage capacity (instead of 32GB, which is the default in the U.S.), and all that bling hasn't affected its IP68-certified water and dust resistance.
Same goes for the 5.5-inch Galaxy S7 Edge, which also comes with 64GB of storage memory.
The price starts at £2,097 ($2,973) for the S7 and £2,297 ($3,264) for the S7 Edge.

The prices, while likely out of reach for most customers, don't appear to be obnoxiously high. For comparison, some of Vertu's luxury phones cost tens of thousands of dollars, and luxury brand Stuart Hughes currently sells a golden iPhone 6S (though that one has a solid gold body instead of a gold-plated one) for £19,995 ($28,415)
